Does your laptop have a broken power jack? This page is here to inform
you about this problem and how to get it fixed only for $79!
Symptoms of a broken power jack:
- The laptop only runs when you keep the power cord in a certain direction.
- The laptop only runs on battery power.
- The laptop will not charge the battery.
- The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently.
- The unit suddenly shuts off
- Sparks come out of the back of the laptop.
How jacks break:
- Some power jacks fail under normal operation of your computer. After a year
or two of usage, parts just 'come loose' on certain models.
- Sometimes the laptop gets dropped and the cord yanks the jack loose.
- People, pets and vaccum cleaners all trip over laptop power cords on a daily
basis.
- The laptop is moved around a lot. After the jack is moved back and forth
enough times, it comes loose.
The wrong information some repair centers give:
Most service centers don't want to deal with this problem on a micro repair
basis. Many, including the large nationwide stores and the laptop's
manufacturer, will either tell you the machine is not repairable or that
it needs a new motherboard. These quotes usually run from $500 to as much
as $800. They choose to ignore the fact that a broken power jack
can be repaired without a motherboard replacement.

Q. How
do we submit a payment?
A. We
prefer it if you would enclose a check made out to Coastech, LLC
for $79. we must wait for the funds to clear before we can ship your
laptop. If the return address is different from the one on the check
please enclose a note that would say so. extra fee of $5 you can
pay via paypal by transferring money to: djean@coastechcomputers.com after
the job is done. We will notify you once your laptop is fixed. If
you bring you laptop over then the only method of payment would be cash
, visa mastercard , and by personal check, after you would test that
your computer is working fine.
Q. What if it can't
be fixed?
A. On very rare occasions, part of the motherboard is broken that
the jack attaches to. This usually only happens if the cord was yanked
out very hard. When the unit is opened and we note this, we do not
do the repair and do not charge you for the jack repair. We will give
you some options, including sending the laptop back, a quote on a replacement
motherboard and other options. If
you choose not to have the laptop repaired, we will only charge our standard
diagnostic fee ( $55 but subject to change).
Q. How long does
it take?
A. We repair laptops in the order received. Turnaround
time is usually 2 - 4 business days depending on workload and availability
of the DC jack made for your computer. The actual repair and testing
takes only around 4 hours. Sending it to the manufacturer could take
8 - 12 weeks!
Q. I live in Palm Beach,
FL can you pick up my laptop and drop it off?
AYes for an addition
fee of $30 we can pick it up and drop it off, this fee is payable
no matter what the outcome of the repair will be.
Q. Do you need a password to get into my system?
A. No,
we do not need any of your passwords
Q. Do you need my hard drive?
A. We
don't need your hard drive. If you have a sensible information
on it that you are worried about please remove it from your system. Please
note all laptops that are property of the US government i.e. FBI,
DOD, NSA, CIA even though you have a 128 bit encryption set on your
machines, you are required to remove a hard drive before sending
it to us.
Q. Do I need to send an AC adapter?
A. Yes,
to test out your system we would prefer to have your AC DC power adapter,
however if you are missing an AC DC adapter we still can work on it
and test out your computer using our adapters. If your power
plug adapter is broken, we will attempt to fix it at no extra charge.
Q. Will it ever break again?
A. We do this repair daily and the laptop technicians performing the repair
are very good at it, however, we can not change the engineering of your laptop.
Some DC jacks mount in to your laptop's motherboard by as few as three small
pins. Most laptops never return for service a second time, but note that on
many models one good jerk will break the jack free again.
Q. Is there a warranty
on the repair?
A. Yes! We back our work and the jack itself with a 60-day guarantee against
defective parts and installation. In other words, you are covered in the
event the repair is not performed on your laptop properly. We are proud to
say we have less than a 2 percent return rate on our power jack repair work,
however.
